African Bank Soweto Marathon

Soweto, Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa

Soweto Marathon takes the full road-marathon distance through Johannesburg’s south-western townships, passing places with a much longer story than anyone’s training diary. Vilakazi Street, Regina Mundi Church and the Hector Pieterson Memorial feature in the organiser’s route description. The race used Johannesburg Expo Centre at NASREC as its base in 2025. Known as the People’s Race, it combines a demanding run with a close view of Soweto’s history; check the next edition’s entry announcement before making travel plans.
