Biography

Eva Buzo learned to swim with Wanda Surf Life Saving Club in Australia. In March 2022 she swam the 34 kilometres from New Norfolk to the Tasman Bridge on consecutive days. That July she swam 58 kilometres on Lake Geneva, from Château de Chillon to Hermance, in 25 hours 19 minutes 16 seconds.

Buzo left Dover on the night of 5 June 2024 and reached France the following morning. A seal joined her before dawn. She called it Trudy after Gertrude Ederle, the first woman to swim the Channel. Her crossing took 10 hours 49 minutes.

The official swim record gives a 23:17 departure and a 10:06 finish the next morning, with no stated time zone. Eddie Spelling piloted Pegasus and Tony Kenyon observed the swim. In a contemporary interview, Shakespeare Beach and Cap Gris-Nez are named as the two shores, with the start reported two minutes earlier.

In August 2024 Buzo became the first woman to swim across the Strait of Otranto from Italy to Albania. The Albanian National Olympic Committee recognised her swim with its Olympic Order.
