Biography

Chloë McCardel is an Australian marathon swimmer and coach, raised in Melbourne. Her Channel career began on 21 September 2009 and developed through repeated solo and multi-way crossings. In August 2015 she completed a non-stop triple, and in 2016 she made eight Channel crossings in one year.

On Wednesday 13 October 2021 she completed her 44th career crossing, overtaking Alison Streeter’s total of 43. The final swim, from England to France, took 10 hours and one minute. Her 44 crossings comprise 35 single swims, three doubles and one triple; the legs of each multi-way swim count towards that career total.

McCardel has also coached swimmers preparing for solo and relay Channel attempts, with her official biography recording more than 150 participants. Her wider endurance achievements include a long ocean swim in the Bahamas in 2014, and she has spoken about encouraging more women and girls to pursue ambitious sporting goals.
