Biography

Attila Mányoki is a Hungarian marathon swimmer, born in Zalaegerszeg on 3 September 1973. He joined his local swimming club in 1980, discovered open-water racing at a Balatonfüred-to-Siófok event in 1989 and began international competition in 1991. From 1993 his career included World Cup races across a wide range of conditions. He later trained under Nikos Gemelos and completed a 79.6-kilometre lengthwise swim of Lake Balaton in 2008.

The English Channel became the first stage of his Oceans Seven programme on 20 August 2013. The CSA's successful-swim entry records an England-to-France solo in 10 hours 47 minutes and its Fastest Swim by a Man award for that season. The Hungarian Olympic Committee's contemporary report agrees with that time and identifies Dover and Tardinghen as the endpoints. Mányoki's own biography reports 10 hours 48 minutes, so the difference is preserved rather than silently corrected.

His subsequent channel programme included Tsugaru, Molokai and Catalina before completion of the Oceans Seven in 2019. IMSHOF describes the combined speed record he established then as lasting until 2023. Its updated biography also records a Triple Crown completion in 2024. Mányoki had already entered the Hall of Fame as an Honor Swimmer in the Class of 2016.
