Biography

Alison Streeter is an English marathon swimmer whose career includes 43 English Channel crossings. She combined repeated solo crossings with increasingly demanding multi-way swims: her Hall of Fame record includes three doubles and one triple. In 1983 she became the first British woman to complete a two-way crossing, taking 21 hours and 16 minutes.

On 2–3 August 1990 she became the first woman to complete a continuous three-way English Channel swim. The England–France–England–France effort lasted 34 hours and 40 minutes, extending a career already distinguished by her first female North Channel crossing in 1988.

Her wider achievements included Catalina, Manhattan Island and Jersey swims. Awarded an MBE for services to swimming, she also used her swims to support charitable fundraising. Her career total counts individual Channel crossings, so a three-way effort contributes three crossings while remaining one continuous swim.
