US running round-up: Monumental records and an American podium in Athens

By AthRecs Editorial · 2 min read

Indianapolis delivered four course records on Saturday; American Jane Jepkemboi Bareikis also earned an Athens Marathon podium on Sunday.

The defining American performance of the weekend may have been Lindsey Bradley's final seconds at Indianapolis. She won the women's Monumental Marathon in 2:29:47, with Isabel Hebner only one second behind. The victory improved Bradley's own course record from 2024 and demanded everything the finish line could measure.

Johnnie Guy gave the race a different kind of comeback. Seventh in 2025, he returned in 2026 to win the men's marathon in a course-record 2:11:47, almost five minutes faster than the year before. Half-marathon and 5K records added further depth to a remarkable programme.

And it was not only US roads delivering US achievements. Across the Atlantic on Sunday, Jane Jepkemboi Bareikis finished third woman at the Athens Authentic Marathon in 2:32:59, behind two Ethiopian athletes who both ran faster than the previous women's event record.

Indianapolis rewards speed across three distances

Guy took the Indianapolis men's marathon in 2:11:47, ahead of Cameron Dickson and Kobe Blanco. Bradley's 2:29:47 led Hebner by just a second, while Melissa Berry completed the women's podium.

Owen Smith won the men's half marathon in 1:01:42, a course record, ahead of Matt Richtman and Noah Fisher. Mikayla Reed won the women's half in 1:08:51; Marisa Howard and Jessica Gockley-Day were next.

Lance Sobaski won the men's 5K in 14:28. Rebecca Schmitt's 15:56 women's 5K win broke the event record of 16:03. Overall, the organisers reported 28 Olympic Trials qualifying marathon performances, more than double their 2025 total.

Bareikis on the Athens podium; Boston results need official confirmation

Jane Jepkemboi Bareikis ran 2:32:59 for the Athens women's bronze, behind Yatane Kormoshe Dusha and Tsiyon Abebe Temesgen. Finishing on the podium of the historic Athens route was a notable achievement for the American representative.

The Boston Half took place on Sunday, but its final category positions were not checked in this first report. AthRecs should recognise its champions, wheelchair and para leaders and age divisions only after verifying the official B.A.A. classifications, rather than turn a pre-race entry list into a result.

This country round-up is built around the verified performances, not guesses about how every American starter or registered runner fared.
