Jo Andrews led an all-masters women's podium in Great Yarmouth, while James Preston won the men's race and four tenths separated second from third.
There are race results that deserve a second look. At the East Coast 10K, Jo Andrews' age-category victory came with the biggest prize of all: first woman home.
The Bungay Black Dog RC athlete, racing in F50–54, won in 37:29.7 gun time on Sunday 1 November. Cat Cummings of City of Norwich AC was second in 38:52.7, leading F45–49, and Bure Valley Harriers' Amy Beck took third in 39:01.8 as the F40–44 winner. Three masters categories, three clubs, one women's podium.
A podium across the age groups
Wymondham AC's James Preston won the men's race in 33:22.5. Waveney Valley AC's Josh Smith secured second in 33:58.0, just four tenths ahead of Matthew Clark's 33:58.4. Those decimal places tell the story of a close contest for the remaining podium positions.
The Great Yarmouth Promenade course gives the event a distinctive setting. The organiser describes a flat, traffic-free route, with the start and finish at Anchor Gardens and race headquarters in the nearby Marina Centre. It is the kind of local race where club colours, familiar names and individual targets all share the same stretch of seafront.
A race rooted in its community
For the women at the front, the result is a celebration of competitive running across age groups. The category column adds to the achievement: it shows exactly who filled the leading places. For runners looking for encouragement to keep racing, that is a powerful podium to see.
A race archive should give every finisher room in the story as well. The winners offer the headline, but the wider field carries the personal targets, club rivalries and first finishes that make a local 10K worth returning to. Congratulations to the athletes who took on Great Yarmouth's seafront this weekend.
