Why the George Munday 10K starts at 11:03

In Leverington, near Wisbech, all 360 places are taken for the tenth George Munday 10K. Three minutes on the clock tell you something about the race.

If you are used to rounding a race start to the nearest five minutes, make an exception on Sunday. Three Counties Running Club lists the George Munday 10K for 11:03 on 8 November. Before anybody runs a step there will be a Remembrance Sunday tribute and two minutes of silence.
Out towards Newton and back
The runners leave Leverington, follow the quiet Fenland roads towards Newton and loop back to Leverington Sports and Social Club. It is a flat course. For a spectator, that return to the same village club matters as much as the profile. You can see somebody off, then be there when they come home.
The organisers have marked the tenth running with a commemorative shirt. The field has reached its limit of 360 and there is a waiting list. Parking is limited too, so the club asks people coming by car to share a lift where possible.
What 57 minutes meant to one runner
Look back at the 2023 results and the 219th finisher gives you a reason to read beyond the front page. Rob Stratton of Wymondham AC ran 57:25.2 on the chip. The gun time beside his name is 57:53.6. His club reported the chip time, rounded to 57:25, as another personal best. He was one of four Wymondham runners that day.
The two figures answer different questions. One measures from the signal at the front, the other from the moment Rob crossed the start. For the record his clubmates were celebrating, those 28 seconds mattered. When Sunday’s results arrive, there will be stories worth finding at both ends of the list.
