About Western Athletic Club (Isle of Man)
Western Athletic Club began in spring 1980 after Dave Phillips started teaching children long jump at the newly built Queen Elizabeth II High School in Peel, Isle of Man. Interest from local families led to a club, with Gordie Brew as its first chairman, Brian Maddrell as secretary and Diana Parslow as treasurer.
The club’s history celebrates Commonwealth Games athletes Dana Myhill and Martin Aram, alongside many Island Games representatives. Its activities span track and field, road running, walking and winter cross-country, with opportunities to compete both on and off the island.
Western also organises local events including the Dave Phillips running series, Peel Hill Race, Western 10 and Julie Brew Walk, and Rosie Morrison trail races. Prospective members and volunteers can contact the club through its public email or enquiry form. Membership renews in April; confirm the current form and training arrangements, as the downloadable form is still labelled 2025/26.
