Run Free Fell Runners was founded in Llangollen, North Wales, by Warren Renkel after he moved to the area and began exploring its hills. The club’s first run took place in October 2017. Fell running remains its main focus, alongside trails and opportunities to take part in road and cross-country events.
The club organises the Llangollen Fell Race and Trail by Torchlight, as well as an internal championship and end-of-year awards. Runs meet at Llangollen Leisure Centre on Dinbren Road, with Monday outings and seasonal Thursday training. Its guidance explains the preparation and equipment expected for running in the hills.
Prospective members can arrange a couple of trial outings before joining. Membership options include affiliated, non-first-claim and social participation, allowing people who no longer run to remain involved. Email the club or membership secretary to discuss experience, terrain and the next suitable session; Thursday sessions are described as a spring-to-autumn programme.
