About Rhymney Valley AC
Rhymney Valley Athletics Club serves young athletes across the Caerphilly area of Wales from its track in Oakdale. Its roots lie in Bargoed AC, founded by Bill Maynard at Bargoed Park’s cinder track. It later adopted the Rhymney Valley name.
A relaunch in 2013 was followed by moves to Blackwood Comprehensive School in 2014, Markham and District Sports Centre in 2019 and Rhiw Syr Dafydd School in summer 2021. The current 300-metre track supports introductory and development groups alongside sprint, endurance and multi-event squads. The club offers track-and-field and cross-country competition.
Children can join from age four, subject to a place in the appropriate group. Families should use the club’s availability checker before applying and confirm the session that suits their child. Volunteer support is welcomed. Current joining guidance explains the registration and payment process, while the enquiry form handles other questions.
