Rhondda Athletics Club was formed in 1953 by Bill Kingsbury, Idris Evans and Tom Barnett, former Army physical-training instructors returning to the Rhondda in Wales. The club developed a programme covering track and field, cross-country and road running, supported by volunteer coaches.
Its published history highlights Rhys Jones, a Paralympian and Commonwealth T37 100-metre bronze medallist, and hammer thrower Carys Parry, who won Commonwealth silver in Delhi in 2010. Both feature in the club’s account of athletes who have represented it.
The club identifies King George’s Track in Clydach Vale, near Tonypandy, as its summer base and describes winter gym training at Tonypandy Community College. New athletes can use the enquiry form or public club email to ask about groups and trying athletics. Contact the club before a first visit to confirm the current seasonal arrangements.
