About Tiptree Road Runners
Tiptree Road Runners began in October 1984 when a group of squash players started running from Tiptree Sports Centre. The Essex club, based in Tiptree, England, adopted red vests and developed a race programme alongside its regular training.
Its first half marathon took place in September 1985. That event became a ten-mile race in 1987, establishing the Tiptree 10 tradition. The club history describes support for local charities, including the air ambulance, and members volunteering at parkrun as well as racing on roads and in cross-country leagues.
Training expanded to Tuesday and Thursday evenings in 2015. New runners should use the club's current contact form to check meeting points and suitable groups, rather than treating the historical timetable as a booking. Early league athletes Sharon Wakefield and Sue Baker are remembered in the club's account of its first competitive seasons.
