About Tipton Harriers

Tipton Harriers became independent of Birchfield Harriers in 1910. Its subsequent growth helped shape athletics in the Black Country: the Dudley branch became a separate club in 1924, part of the history preserved by today’s Dudley & Stourbridge Harriers. Tipton’s own best-known historical runners include Jack Holden, winner of both the European and Empire Games marathons in 1950.

The club’s present training base is Tipton Sports Academy on Wednesbury Oak Road in Tipton, West Midlands. Sandwell’s local activities directory lists Tuesday and Thursday evening sessions there. Anyone planning a first visit should ask the club about the right group and current arrangements; the directory’s earlier Wednesbury correspondence-style address is not the athletics venue.
