About St Albans Striders

St Albans Striders began with an inaugural meeting on 22 July 1984, chaired by Mike Starr. The Hertfordshire club, based in St Albans, England, developed around road running and cross-country, with the Westminster Lodge track becoming an important meeting point for runners of different abilities.

Its history includes the women's 1990 AAA marathon team success and the development of the Fred Hughes 10, named in memory of a former chairman. Today the club also promotes the Summer Solstice 10k and the St Albans Stampede, a twelve-hour endurance event. Club competition includes road, cross-country and track-and-field opportunities.

Newcomers are welcome throughout the year, but the club recommends the first Tuesday of the month for a first visit because its Tea Night offers time to meet people and ask questions. Contact the club beforehand with some background about your running. Membership and England Athletics registration are handled through the club website; this is a separate organisation from St Albans Athletic Club.
