About Spenborough & Dist AC
Spenborough and District AC traces its beginnings to summer 1965, when girls training at the local track asked their parents to establish a club. Boys joined before registration was completed. Based in Liversedge, West Yorkshire, England, the club developed track-and-field athletics alongside cross-country running.
Winter closures of the original cinder track helped turn attention to cross-country, and the club was involved in the early Northern women's cross-country organisation. A stand and training room followed in 1970, with a synthetic track installed in 1974. Its history records athletes including Susan Midgley and Peter Crampton, alongside the development of the Spen 20 and 10k races.
Princess Mary Athletics Stadium on Bradford Road remains the club's listed base. Junior introductory sessions are arranged through the membership secretary rather than by arriving unannounced. At the October 2026 source review, the junior waiting list was explicitly closed; families should check for reopening, while adults should ask about the appropriate training group.
