About Sparkhill Harriers
Sparkhill Harriers was founded in 1902, initially meeting in a rented room at a coffee house on Stoney Lane. The Birmingham, England, club later used premises in Sparkhill and Hall Green before establishing its present base at Fox Hollies Leisure Centre in Acocks Green.
Road running, cross-country, track and field, race walking and fell racing all feature in the club's activities. Its history includes Maurice Herriott, the 1964 Olympic steeplechase silver medallist, who is also listed among its life members. This is a historical sporting association, not a claim that he is part of a current competing team.
Junior membership begins at nine. Thursday evening junior training uses the Fox Hollies track, while seniors have Tuesday and Thursday sessions and Saturday training at advertised locations. Prospective members can use the homepage enquiry form to discuss a trial, then introduce themselves to a coach at their first session.
