About SOUTH LEEDS LAKERS RUNNING CLUB
South Leeds Lakers grew out of the community around Cross Flatts parkrun in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. With support from Run Leeds and the Hunslet Rugby Foundation, nineteen runners attended its first social run on 10 February 2015. England Athletics affiliation followed a year later, and the club received the Yorkshire and Humberside Club of the Year award in 2017. Keeping ordinary club participation free remained central to its approach, with individual England Athletics registration optional.
Tuesday club nights meet at Hunslet Nelson Cricket Club, while daytime runs and track coaching offer other ways to take part. A junior section started in 2019 and provides run, jump and throw sessions for eight- to fourteen-year-olds at the John Charles Centre for Sport. Junior places must be booked, and an accompanying adult must remain onsite. The Lakers also organise the Bah Humbug 10K and take part in veterans' and winter leagues.
