About Somer AC
Somer AC grew out of Bob James's wish to establish a running club for the Somer Valley in Somerset, England. An advertisement in the Somerset Guardian brought together about thirty runners in 1981. The club's black-and-yellow colours originated with a prototype vest made by Bob's wife, Val.
Today its senior groups meet at Norton Hill School in Midsomer Norton on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Qualified coaches organise varied sessions, including hills, intervals, fartlek and strength work. Summer routes reach Haydon and Clapton, while winter running takes place around Midsomer Norton and Radstock.
The club also provides junior and youth athletics, and has contributed volunteers to the Bath Half Marathon and organised the Jack and Jill Challenge. Adults can enquire about a trial through the club website. Junior and youth first visits are by invitation, so families should contact the relevant section before booking or attending.
