About Runnymede Runners
Runnymede Runners began in summer 1981 when Tony Prior proposed a jogging group to improve fitness for squash at Egham Sports Centre. Derek McCausland helped organise it, and Walton AC's Glenn Mealing provided early guidance. The first official meeting was held on 4 June 1981.
Today the club serves adults around Egham and Staines in Surrey, England, with road and cross-country running at its core. Tuesday sessions are usually structured, with longer Thursday runs and weekend social outings. Summer training uses Windsor Great Park; winter arrangements move into Egham and Staines. Members also support local races through volunteering.
Beginners can enquire about Couch to 5K courses, which run when there is sufficient demand. New members should email the membership secretary to arrange a taster and confirm the correct meeting place. Club membership and optional England Athletics registration are explained separately on the joining page. Savill Garden is one seasonal meeting location, not an all-year clubhouse.
