About Royston Runners
Royston Runners began in November 1985 at the Heath Sports Club in Royston, Hertfordshire, England. Fred Wilding was its first chairman. The Buntingford 10 became part of club activities in its founding year, while the Long Short Relay began in 1996 in memory of Clive Long, who had belonged to both Royston and Metros.
The volunteer-led club now offers Tuesday group runs, Thursday coaching, circuits and monthly track sessions at Ridlins with Meridian Tri Club. Its programme spans road running, cross-country and trail outings. The Chas Avis Harvest Trail and club social events give members further ways to participate beyond ordinary training nights.
New runners can arrange a four-week trial with temporary access to Connect my Club, the app used for bookings and membership. Groups include a run-walk-jog option as well as continuous running. The joining page explains the process; ask about the appropriate group and youth provision rather than assuming the same arrangements apply to everyone.
