About Rossendale Harriers & AC
Rossendale Harriers & AC was formed in 1967 as the new track and pavilion at Marl Pits gave athletics a permanent home in Rawtenstall, Lancashire, England. The club credits Walter Whittaker of the local sports council and teacher Eddie Roberts with helping bring it into being. Local fell races predated the club, but are not treated as an earlier founding date.
Marl Pits remains the base for training on the track, surrounding roads and hills. Experienced adults normally train on Tuesday and Thursday evenings; Monday's First Steps to Fitness session offers a different entry point. Junior coaching caters for children from eight, and the volunteer-run club also organises fell races and maintains a members' gym.
Adult newcomers are directed to arrive upstairs at the clubhouse around 6.45pm before the 7pm session. Families should contact the junior coordinator to arrange a trial rather than assume a place is available. Membership questions can go to the published membership contact, and the website explains how to enrol.
