About Poplar Running Club
Poplar Running Club began as Shelly Runners on 13 May 2013, when friends in Loughborough, Leicestershire, England, started running together for fitness. Its later name came from Poplar Road in Shelthorpe, an early meeting point. Kevin Brooks and Darryl Hughes helped develop coaching and run leadership as the group moved into local races and league competition.
The club now meets on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings around Loughborough, with sessions managed through Spond. Members take part in the Leicestershire Road Running League and cross country. New adult runners register first and can try three organised runs before choosing whether to join.
Junior Pops developed from discussions in 2015, with weekly coached training beginning in February 2016. The current junior membership page welcomes children aged four to sixteen through a separate parent or carer registration process. Meeting places vary, so the directory's Holt Drive address should not be treated as the start of every run.
