About Poole AC
Poole Athletic Club serves Poole, Dorset, England, through road running, cross country and track and field. Its history is not a simple uninterrupted line: the club questions the evidence for its claimed 1897 foundation, documents a combined cycling and athletics club in the 1930s, and describes later re-formations in 1963 and after the 1981 London Marathon.
The modern club moved to Ashdown around 1990 and developed junior and senior league teams alongside its road runners. Its history names international athletes including Alison Croad in triple jump and Melissa Courtney over 1,500 metres. Para athletics has also become an important part of the club, with wheelchair and other track-and-field opportunities.
Membership is open from eight years old. Prospective members should use the relevant junior, senior or para-athletics enquiry form to find an appropriate group. Club events include the May 5, the Beast and Round the Lakes; the track-and-field headquarters is at Ashdown Leisure Centre.
