About Orion Harriers
Orion Harriers was formally established in September 1911 in Chingford, now part of London, England. Its roots lay in runs organised by Orion Gymnastics Club members Joe Spicer and Frankie Harriss four years earlier. The club later developed traditions including mob matches from 1920 and the Mercury race, first recorded in 1913.
The clubhouse at Jubilee Retreat on Bury Road gives access to Epping Forest. Today's programme includes paced Wednesday groups, track and hill sessions, Sunday endurance runs and marathon preparation. In 2011, members of Walthamstow Athletics Club joined Orion as that older club's membership declined.
Prospective members can try two sessions before joining. Wednesday's beginner and returning-runner group provides one route into the club, while junior enquiries are handled separately: the published minimum ages are eight for track and twelve for cross-country. Check the club app and relevant session details before attending. There is no clubhouse parking; nearby parking is independently operated.
