Newcastle University Athletics and Cross Country is open to Newcastle University students in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. Its cross-country roots reach back to the 1960s team known as the Waders; the athletics club followed in the 1970s. Those separate beginnings are not reduced to a single precise founding year.
The programme covers athletics disciplines and distances, welcoming social and fitness runners alongside competitors. Teams enter BUCS cross-country, indoor athletics and outdoor track-and-field events. The club also organises the Cowbell 5K on Newcastle's Town Moor.
Term-time training uses Gateshead's outdoor track, the university sports centre and Newcastle parks. The published schedule combines track work, group runs, threshold sessions and a longer Sunday outing; strength and conditioning requires the appropriate pass.
