About Matlock Athletic Club
Matlock Athletic Club began at a meeting at Matlock College in June 1976 in Derbyshire, England. The first White Peak marathon followed in 1977. After years at Sherwood Hall and a period without a permanent home, the club moved to the Arc Leisure Centre when it opened in 2011.
Road, fell and cross-country running sit alongside a junior programme. Senior sessions include faster work, steadier training and longer group outings; some use away venues or Tupton track. The club's history records Billy Cartwright becoming its first senior English fell champion in 2021, with clubmate Dan Haworth second.
Newcomers should use the contact form before trying a few sessions. The White Peak Festival of Running, Black Rocks Fell Race, Peak Rail 7 and Whitworth Thread reflect the club's wider role in local running. The Arc is the usual start, but participants should check the published schedule for their chosen session.
