About Longwood Harriers AC
Longwood Harriers AC grew from a running group at St Mark's Church in Longwood, Huddersfield, in 1888. The West Yorkshire club in England now offers track and field, road running and cross-country, with volunteer coaches supporting junior and senior athletes. Competition is an expected part of membership, not merely an optional extra to group exercise.
Training uses Leeds Road in Huddersfield, with Cleckheaton's track used in summer because of limitations at the Leeds Road facilities. Track and field is prominent in summer; cross-country becomes a focus in winter while road running continues through the year. Parents and older athletes are encouraged to help with coaching, officiating and club events.
Prospective members must contact the club before attending. Coaching capacity is limited and a waiting list may apply; turning up on a training night does not secure a place. Once invited, newcomers can try two sessions before completing the membership process. Confirm the relevant age group, venue and session charges with the secretary.
