About Lincoln Wellington Athletic Club

Lincoln Wellington Athletic Club takes its name from the Duke of Wellington Inn on Broadgate, where the Lincoln club was formed on 20 September 1911. Its history connects local athletics in Lincolnshire, England, with international competition: Tommy White ran the 800 metres at the 1948 Olympics, while later generations include Abbie Donnelly and Sam Atkin. More recently, the club received England Athletics' East Midlands Club of the Year award in 2025 and the Lincoln Civic Award in April 2026.

Yarborough Leisure Centre on Riseholme Road is the club's athletics base. The joining page offers routes into running, jumping and throwing from age eight, with specialist training groups as athletes develop. Road and cross-country runners are also part of the club, alongside track athletes and field-event specialists. Email the joining team to discuss age, experience and available coaching before a first session. Volunteers support this programme as well as the athletes: the club's history gives that everyday work a place beside its best-known results.
