About Jarrow & Hebburn AC
The club was formed in June 1937 as Jarrow Cycling and Athletics Club, following the rebuilding of Monkton Stadium. The stadium project gave unemployed men work and brought organised sport back to the town after the Jarrow March.
The name changed to Jarrow and Hebburn Athletics Club in 1969. Its history is closely associated with coach Jimmy Hedley and middle-distance runners Steve Cram and David Sharpe. Monkton Stadium remains the club’s base; prospective members should contact the secretary with their age and the events they would like to try.
