About Horsham Blue Star Harriers
Horsham Blue Star Harriers marked a hundred years of its present club in 2025. It was re-established on 4 February 1925 after an earlier Horsham club had closed during the First World War. That predecessor counted distance-running pioneer Alfred Shrubb among its athletes. Later generations built a strong cross-country tradition: the club won the Sussex men's championship nine years in succession from 1946 to 1954. Track and field and Sportshall athletics broadened the programme over subsequent decades.
The club is based at the Broadbridge Heath track in Horsham, West Sussex, England, with coaching for track and field, road running and cross-country. Main-club joining information is aimed at athletes over ten, while the Martlets group provides a separate introduction for eight- to ten-year-olds. Training and membership are arranged through the club's enquiry routes. Its published history recognises volunteers as well as international athletes, including John Luxford's long service as runner, coach, team manager and official.
