About Holgate Harriers
Holgate Harriers is based in the Holgate area of York, England, and became affiliated to England Athletics in April 2025. Its kit takes inspiration from the neighbourhood's five-sailed windmill, which also provides a memorable landmark for hill efforts. The affiliation date is a milestone, rather than evidence of when the first informal group began.
Thursday social runs meet at York RI Rugby Club on New Lane, with groups offering different distances and paces. New runners can try the club before choosing full or social membership. The programme also includes structured coaching, monthly trail outings and a chosen parkrun followed by time together over breakfast or coffee.
In 2026 the club joined the York and District Road Race League, giving eligible members access to its series of local ten-kilometre races. More than twenty people joined the January 2026 Couch to 5K programme. Anyone interested in a future beginner course should enquire directly, since a possible later course is not the same as a confirmed booking opportunity.
