About Heaton Harriers & Athletics Club Limited

Heaton Harriers was founded on 4 November 1890 in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. Its history follows the club through the first Memorial Road Race in 1920, strong inter-war competition and a revival after a difficult period in the 1970s. The junior section was re-established in 2008, adding a new generation to a club with deep roots in North East athletics.

Among its historical athletes is Maurice Benn, who competed at the 1968 Olympic Games. The club also remembers runner Anita Nott through its memorial women's event. These connections sit alongside the everyday programme of coached training and club racing, rather than implying that former athletes are current members.

The current club website lists Longbenton Sports Ground on Coach Lane as its base, with Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday sessions managed through Spond. The adult trial page expects applicants already to be capable of five miles at roughly ten-minute-mile pace or faster; it is not a complete beginner course. Prospective runners should submit the trial form and confirm the group, location and seasonal visibility requirements before travelling.
