About Headington RR
Headington RoadRunners was founded at a public meeting in Oxford, England, on 28 November 1988. Patrick Coulter called the meeting, where those attending chose Headington Road Runners over the proposed Oxford Road Runners name. The club moved to OXSRAD in Marston in May 1989 and developed a tradition of runbacks and group support so that faster runners could train alongside slower companions.
Mara Yamauchi recalls training with the club as a teenager before her later international career, while the club history also records Jethro Lennox's mountain-running success. Road racing, cross-country and long-distance relays remain important parts of the club's identity, alongside organising the Headington 5 and contributing to local league events.
Adults can try sessions before joining. Thursday evenings at OXSRAD offer several pace groups; a shorter option builds towards continuous running, and Monday's social 5K suits those already comfortable with that distance. Complete beginners should ask about coaching guidance or the spring beginners' group. Applications use the club's membership system, and the membership secretary can advise on a suitable first session.
