About Harlow AC

Harlow Athletic Club was established in 1963 in Harlow, Essex, England. Its first cinder track was made with help from local families who donated ashes, with Cecil Smith serving as the first director of coaching. The club later moved to its present athletics base at Mark Hall Sports Centre.

Track and field and cross-country are joined by a wheelchair racing section founded by Richard Chiassaro in 2010. Chiassaro, a Paralympian and world championship medallist, is an important figure in that section’s development. The club offers pathways from younger children’s athletics into junior and senior training, while wheelchair racing has its own coaching and assessment arrangements.

Prospective members can arrange an initial trial, but junior places depend on capacity and waiting lists may apply. Families should contact the membership team before arriving, and wheelchair racing newcomers should use the section’s enquiry process so suitable support can be discussed. The club publishes email contacts and explicitly states that it has no club telephone number.
