About Garden City Runners
Garden City Runners began in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, England, in 1982. Angie Curtis and Val Fieth helped establish the original Garden City Joggers, inspired by the growing enthusiasm surrounding the London Marathon. The name changed in 2002 after runners from a local track club joined.
The club’s history includes the Garden City Ten, which supported charities for around three decades, and involvement in the Welwyn 10K and local festival. Members also take part in the Round Norfolk Relay and contribute volunteers to parkrun. These events sit alongside road racing, winter cross-country and social running.
Tuesday training meets at Ridgeway Academy on Herns Lane. Thursday options include runs from the Campus West library steps and track work at Gosling, while summer routes explore places such as Tewin and Panshanger. Membership is for adults aged 18 and over. The membership and run-leader contacts can help newcomers choose a session, including a suitable route into running for beginners.
