About Gainsborough & Morton Striders
Gainsborough and Morton Striders began in 1983 in the Gainsborough area of Lincolnshire, England. The first committee met on 19 July, followed a week later by the first club meeting at the Ship Inn in Morton. Its early runners were building from local fun runs towards longer distances, including the marathon.
The club held its first invitation race that October from Morton playing field. Today the training programme includes Tuesday sessions built around pace, hills, intervals, track work or time trials. Thursday runs normally offer two or three distance and pace options, giving members a choice of how far and how hard to run.
Meeting places vary and are announced through the club’s Facebook updates, so the historical Morton venue should not be mistaken for a fixed modern training base. Prospective members can contact the secretary to ask about joining and an appropriate first session. The club’s official website sets out its history and training approach, while current notices provide the practical details for each outing.
