About Frome Running Club
Frome Running Club first met in January 1981, when Mike Palfrey, Alan Berry and Mike Rideout brought local runners together in Frome, Somerset, England. Alan Berry's account describes almost 40 people arriving for that first session, encouraged by publicity surrounding the inaugural London Marathon.
The club briefly used the name Frome Athletic Club before returning to its original identity. Today its programme includes road and off-road running, junior athletics, a monthly five-kilometre time trial and the Mells Mash Up, formerly the Mells Seven. Wednesday club nights meet at Frome Rugby Club on Gypsy Lane.
Adults can arrange two trial sessions and should normally be able to run for 30 minutes or cover five kilometres. Beginner courses provide another entry point, and juniors have their own membership arrangements. The club asks newcomers to make contact before attending so volunteers can explain the current programme and suitable group.
