About Fairlands Valley Spartans
Fairlands Valley Spartans was formed in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, England, in 1984. Named after the town's Fairlands Valley, the club grew around road running and now includes off-road outings, cross-country and track training.
A Monday run-walk group gives beginners a route into regular training. Tuesday groups, Thursday runs, Saturday sessions at Ridlins Stadium and Sunday outings offer progression for different abilities. Runners regroup during sessions, and prospective members can arrange three trial visits through the membership secretary.
The Spartans organise the Stevenage Half Marathon, Fairlands Valley Challenge and 3K relays, with local charities benefiting from their event work. Members compete in summer road and winter cross-country leagues; masters athletes can also explore the Eastern Masters track-and-field league. The club's life-members roll recognises both its founders and the volunteers who have sustained its coaching, events and administration.
