About Erme Valley Harriers
Erme Valley Harriers grew out of the marathon boom, holding its first committee meeting in November 1983. Founder Richard Bristow wanted a club for Ivybridge runners with a strong family atmosphere. The early road-running group soon added cross-country, entering the Westward League in 1984, and junior track and field followed. The club's events have included the Ivybridge 10K, local hill races and charity challenges.
Today adult sessions use Ivybridge Rugby Club as a base, while juniors from age eight train at Ivybridge Community College, moving between outdoor facilities and the sports hall with the seasons. The club offers a route into running through Couch to 5K as well as competition for experienced athletes. Prospective members can try sessions before committing; families should contact the secretary about the appropriate junior group and current meeting arrangements.
