About East Cheshire Harriers & Tameside AC
East Cheshire Harriers & Tameside AC was formed in 1922 through the merger of Dukinfield Harriers and Tintwistle Harriers. Based in Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester, England, it has a long history in cross-country and road running alongside its track and field programme.
The club’s post-war story includes Jack Price, who joined in 1947 and won the English youth cross-country title the following year. Former English cross-country international Fred Marsland joined in 1949 and became an influential coach. A clubhouse opened in 1979, followed by the all-weather athletics stadium at Richmond Street in April 1988.
Today the Richmond Street facilities provide the club’s training base. Its activities also reach beyond regular members through local primary-school cross-country events and races such as the Black Knight Charge. Prospective athletes should contact the membership volunteers to discuss a suitable group and current joining arrangements.
