About Dronfield RC
Dronfield RC began with solo handicap challenges on local trails during the 2020 lockdown. The group became an England Athletics affiliated club that August, giving runners around Dronfield in Derbyshire, England, a shared base for road, cross-country, fell and trail running.
Its Tuesday groups cover different distances over roughly an hour, while other sessions provide progression runs and opportunities to head onto the trails and fells. Starting points vary and are announced through the club’s members’ group. Newcomers can arrange two trial sessions before deciding whether to join.
The club’s hall of fame records achievements beyond race results. Mel Corby directed the first Big Dipper Half Marathon in September 2022, developing an event rooted in the club’s early challenges. Julie Bembridge’s hundred-mile charity run in July 2021 raised more than £18,000 by the finish for Sheffield Children’s Hospital. These local stories sit alongside a programme that extends from regular social training to long-distance challenges.
