About DORSET DODDLERS RC
Dorset Doddlers was founded in 1983 in Sturminster Newton, Dorset, England. The name had first been used the previous year when a small group entered a race and needed something to put in the club-name box. After completing the London Marathon, several of the runners decided to make the club official.
Thursday training meets at Sturfit in Sturminster Newton and uses groups suited to different paces. Winter Tuesdays tackle Shaftesbury’s hills; summer Tuesdays move between countryside and coastal routes chosen by members. The ten-week Couch to 5K programme is free and can be taken without becoming a club member.
The Doddlers also organise races including the Stur Half and the Stickler, whose route crosses Okeford Beacon, Hod Hill and Hambledon Hill. Newcomers can try training before joining, while social membership offers a way to remain involved through walks, gatherings and volunteering. The current calendar is the best guide to seasonal meeting points.
