About Dorchester AC
Dorchester Athletic Club was formed in 1975 by a small group led by Ralph Thompson in Dorchester, Dorset, England. It developed through regional track-and-field and cross-country leagues, becoming a founder member of the South West Athletics League in 1991. The club also helped establish the composite Team Dorset in 2008.
Training is based at Thomas Hardye School, with groups covering introductory athletics, sprints, endurance, jumps and throws. Indoor provision and outdoor sessions change with the season; some senior winter training takes place at the all-weather track in Yeovil. Applicants from age nine should contact the club first, as places may involve a waiting list before trial sessions.
Paralympian Paul Blake trained with Dorchester as a youngster. The club’s retrospective describes his later international career and retirement, providing a notable link between its local coaching and elite para athletics. Volunteer coaches and helpers remain central to the programme and its opportunities for athletes across West Dorset.
