About Desford Striders
Desford Striders began on 28 February 1991, when fourteen runners met at Bosworth College’s Desford campus in Leicestershire, England. Founder Steve Morris became the first chair, with John Silverwood as secretary. The club moved to Sport in Desford in 1999, which remains its base.
Tuesday training and Thursday social runs sit alongside road and cross-country league competition. The club’s events include the Steve Morris 5 and Desford 6, while handicaps and a parkrun Grand Prix give members further shared targets. Its history remembers the volunteers and fundraising that kept the early club running.
New members can book two introductory sessions through Spond, and Couch to 5K courses provide a route for beginners. The linked Desford Flyers junior athletics club welcomes children aged five to twelve, with younger children accompanied by a parent or guardian.
