About Dartford Harriers AC
Dartford Harriers Athletic Club began in 1922 when members of a rugby club turned to cross-country running. Based in Dartford, Kent, England, it retains the blue hoops that developed from the rugby shirts. The club moved to Central Park in 1968; a synthetic track followed in 1987 and a clubhouse in 1997.
Its history includes international athletes Maureen Conlan, Geoff Wightman, Sarah Rowell and Sally-Ann Hales. Rowell ran the 1984 Olympic marathon, while she and Hales finished second and third respectively at the 1985 London Marathon. These are historical club associations rather than statements of current membership.
Central Park remains the base for athletics. Anyone interested in joining should use the club enquiry route to discuss an appropriate training group. The published guidance checked in October 2026 warns of a minimum two-year waiting list for under-eighteens, so families should establish availability before expecting a trial.
