About Cumberland Fell Runners
Cumberland Fell Runners took its present name at a meeting in December 1986, when running members formed a new committee and separated from the Cumberland Fell Runners Association. Based in west Cumbria, England, the club’s outings range across the western Lake District, including the Buttermere, Lorton, Ennerdale and Wasdale areas.
Tuesday evening club runs continue throughout the year. Sunday Social outings offer a gentler introduction to the fells, while the club organises races, a main championship and a winter league. Its historical honours include English open champions Brian Thompson and Janet King.
Junior membership covers ages six to seventeen, with Saturday sessions usually alternating between Sale Fell and The Leaps. Weather, races and seasonal arrangements can change the venue. Contact the club before a first outing to choose an appropriate session, check the required equipment and understand the expectations of running on the fells.
