About Cambridge University Hare and Hounds Club

Cambridge University Hare and Hounds held its first club run on 7 February 1880. The first Varsity cross-country match against Oxford followed that December, beginning a fixture that became central to the club’s calendar. Its name recalls the early paper-chase format, in which the ‘hares’ laid a trail for other runners to follow.

CUH&H remains the University of Cambridge’s cross-country running club, with cross-country recognised as a Full Blue sport. The club welcomes runners of different backgrounds and abilities, alongside those competing for university teams. Its programme includes college, inter-club and university racing; prospective students and existing students can find training and membership information on the official site.
