About Cambridge University AC
Cambridge University Athletic Club traces its beginnings to the University Sports held at Fenner’s in 1857. The organisation developed during the early 1860s, and the first Oxford–Cambridge Varsity athletics match took place in 1864. That competition remains a defining part of the club’s track and field season.
Today CUAC has event squads led by coaches and supported by student leaders, with opportunities to try different disciplines before specialising. Athletes compete in college events, BUCS championships and Varsity matches. The history of participation has broadened too: the club appointed a women’s captain in 1970, a full women’s Varsity match followed in 1975, and para athletics featured in Varsity competition in 2024.
