About Cambridge Harriers
Cambridge Harriers is based in South East London, serving Greenwich and Bexley. It was formed on 18 July 1890 by members of Cambridge Cricket Club who wanted winter sporting activity, and held its first run on Blackheath that October. The name comes from that cricket club, rather than a base in the city of Cambridge.
Members now take part in track and field, road running, cross-country, fell running and race walking. Training locations include Sutcliffe Park Sports Centre and local parks, with a clubhouse in Bexley. The club’s Olympians list records javelin thrower Steve Backley at four Games from 1992 to 2004 and sprinter Daryll Neita at Rio, Tokyo and Paris.
